Alhama, among the 200 municipalities that will receive European aid to install new points wifi (12/12/2018)

The European Commission has awarded the first aid phase amounting to 15,000 euros for free internet access in public spaces, in at least five new gardens of the town

Our municipality has been selected in the WiFi4EU project (Wifi for Europe), after requesting the City Council its inclusion

Alhama will have new wifi points, after being selected by the European Union in the first phase of the WiFi4EU program.

With a total budget of 42 million euros, the 2,800 municipalities selected throughout the EU will now be able to create Wi-Fi hotspots in public spaces, such as town halls, libraries, museums, parks, squares and other places.

In the case of our municipality we study possible locations such as the El Palmeral park, the garden adjacent to the heated pool, the La Cubana park, the Santa Bárbara garden and the San Cristóbal garden.

The new Wi-Fi accesses will be added to the existing ones in the Plaza de la Constitución and the Los Patos garden, as well as those that were installed at the beginning of 2017 in the five districts of Alhama.

After this first award, the Executive Agency for Innovation and Networks (INEA), in charge of the execution of the project, will invite the winning municipalities to sign grant agreements.

Once this is done, the selected municipalities will be able to hire a company to install the WiFi4EU access points, which will be free and must be active for at least three years.
