Alhama restores two historical documents through the General Archive of the Region (26/12/2018)

The file of Alhama has recovered the Act of consecration of the town to its patrons and vote of celebration of the festivities, of 1558, as well as the Cédula of transport of the bells of the church of San Lazaro, that dates approximately from 1934. It remitted both documents on July 16 to the General Archive of the Region, for its restoration through the initiative 'We restore the role of our history'.

The delivery ceremony took place this morning at the regional archive facilities and was attended by the mayor of Alhama, Mariola Guevara, the Culture and Heritage technician, José Baños, and the auxiliary technician of the municipal archive, Ana Belén García, who have received the documents from the Minister of Culture and Tourism Miriam Guardiola.

The General Archive of the Region expanded its services in 2007, with the start-up of a laboratory for the restoration of books and documents.

This service has been extended to the archival and librarian centers of the Region that have among their funds books and / or documents that require some conservation treatment.

With this project, the resources of the General Archive are offered to the municipalities so that they can restore written historical documents of interest that they keep in their municipal archives and that have suffered some damage or significant deterioration.

This 2018 documents have been restored Águilas, Alhama de Murcia, Caravaca de la Cruz, Jumilla, Lorca and Totana, as well as others belonging to the Franciscan Order that are also guarded in the Region.

Act of consecration of the town to its patrons and perpetual vow of celebration of those festivities

The patron saint festivities that have traditionally been celebrated around a religious image act, in turn, as a benefactor and protector of a people and the people who inhabit it.

In times when epidemics were common, usually associated with bad harvests and hunger, one of the few resources available to the population was to invoke the protection of certain saints: San Roque, against the plague;

San Lázaro, against leprosy ...

The first news of the celebration of parties in Alhama de Murcia, go back to the year 1558, when in the Open Council, the neighbors of the Villa voted and promised to celebrate the festivities "of the Virgin of Hope, Our Lady, who by name title of the O and Peace, the feast of Santa Ana, mother of our Lady, and the feast of San Roque, confessor and lawyer of the pestilence and the feast of St. Lazarus, bishop and confessor, patron and lawyer of this town "

Other documents restored

In the case of Águilas, it is about the File of constitution and operation of the Local Board, of 1919, and the plans of a project of market for the municipality, of years 1926 and 1927.

From Caravaca de la Cruz, the confirmation of privileges to the town by the Catholic Monarchs (1492) and, from Jumilla, three more documents have been restored and handed over: Transfer of concord between Murcia and Jumilla (1495), the letter to the Council for a supposed suit to the Marquis de la Villa (1464) and the Royal Provision of Felipe II to the Council (1580).

The last town councils that have joined the program of restoration of documents of the Archive have been Lorca, with the Acts of the Lorca Council (1513-1514) and Totana, with two separate sketches of the municipalities dated in 1921 and 1931.

In addition to collaborating with town councils, on this occasion documents belonging to the Franciscan Order have also been recovered.

Specifically, it is the Contract between the Convent of Santo Domingo de Murcia and the Brotherhood of San Vicente Mártir regarding the possession and maintenance of the cult and burial chapel of the aforementioned convent (1421) and the plant of a Dominican convent church of the century. XVIII.
