Alhama joins the declaration for the 40 years of democratic city councils (11/04/2019)

On April 3, 40 years of local democracy were celebrated, starting on a Tuesday of the same date in 1979 when a total of 16.6 million citizens (out of a census of 26.5 million) elected almost 8,000 mayors. 104 mayors, and councilors from 8,041 municipalities in the first municipal elections in democratic Spain.

The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has recalled this date in a statement in which it underlines "the pride of these forty years of municipal work, of actions in so many thousands and thousands of City Councils looking for the way to understand the politics of the proximity".

The FEMP, through its president, Abel Caballero, has stressed that "the policy of proximity is the total policy", stressing that the action developed throughout this time has been "thinking of our people from the vocation of democracy, the vocation of progress "in municipalities and cities that had enormous needs and needs.

The four decades that have passed have marked and consolidated "this fantastic form of democracy and government, in the vicinity, looking at citizens in the eyes and sharing, sharing cities and sharing democracy."

On the occasion of this anniversary, a wide range of activities throughout the country are scheduled with which to remember, celebrate and vindicate local democracy, within the framework of sustainability and the new challenges facing municipalities 40 years later.

In this sense, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the contents of the 2030 Agenda are prioritized to vindicate the role and relevance of local governments in promoting policies that meet these criteria.

Localities throughout Spain have joined since last February to commemorate the 40 years of local democracy promoted by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces.

A campaign that, under the hashtag # 40yearsofDemocracyLocal, has invited mayors from all over Spain to remember who they were in 1979 and how they lived the awakening of local democracy.

In addition, for this purpose, through the Federation of Municipalities of the Region (FMRM), a logo has been developed for municipalities, such as Alhama de Murcia, can be added to the initiative and use it during this year 2019 along with the corporate images.

The FMRM held this Wednesday, April 10, 2019 the meeting of its Ordinary General Assembly in Mula, in the Convent of San Francisco, to "continue with the policy of opening the Federation to the municipalities and bring the institution closer to the municipalities, making Participants to mayors and mayors throughout the Region, "they said.

the agreements and relations with other organisms and institutions and the formation program of the FMRM.

Within the new budget for this year, the participation, for the first time, of the FMRM in European programs stands out, both as a partner of other countries and as a leader in projects.

Thus, the Federation is currently part of the Youth Capacity project, as partners of Italy, to design new lines in youth policies and train politicians and technicians in them.

In addition, he will lead a Life project to adapt to climate through the participation of three municipalities: Molina, Alcantarilla and Lorquí.

The work of the Federation has also focused this year on the defense of municipal policies that benefit the municipalities of the Region through the signing of several agreements and agreements with other institutions.

As those subscribed with the Association of Social Educators and the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of the Region of Murcia.

In addition, the collaboration agreement signed with the Segura Hydrographic Confederation for the sealing of wells has been transferred.

The Assembly has also ratified the Human Resources Management Plan for the Consolidation and Stabilization of Temporary Employment in Town Halls, an agreement that has been reached, historically, with the three most important unions in the Local Management Board of the FMRM .

Within the proposals, the calendar for the celebration of the next Constituent Assembly has been set, with the appointment of the new positions, for next November 6, leaving the necessary time for the formation of the new governments and the composition of the plenary sessions of the city councils prior to the election of positions in the FMRM.

In this time the spirit of the Federation has been recovered and it has been opened up to society, to town halls and to the media.

Becoming, in addition, in interlocutors of the city councils in front of other administrations and organisms and in those forums of municipal interest.

New services have also been launched, such as economic advice to town councils and European projects.

But work continues to expand the areas of work in the coming years.

The training program, one of the badges of the FMRM and which has been carried out since 1995, has added a total of more than 20,500 local employees who have gone through one of the more than 1,030 courses that have been carried out.

Specifically, this year, figures and levels of the best years have been recovered, with 33 courses taught and more than 980 students.

The FMRM has also expressed its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda ratifying its adherence to the implementation of the same, since it must be part of and be implemented in each and every one of our policies in a transversal way, as its president Joaquín Hernández has highlighted.

In addition, the adhesion to the declaration of the 40 years of local democracy of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces has also been approved.
