Anti-rabies and microchip vaccination campaign 2019 (02/07/2019)

The Councilor for Animal Welfare, Antonio Espinosa, and the veterinarian of the Cachorros clinic, Ana Victoria C醤ovas, today presented the special vaccination campaign against rabies in dogs, cats and ferrets, with the slogan 'Without RABIES, with MICROCHIP'.

This promotion and dissemination action has the following objectives:

路 Increase preventive measures to control rabies.

路 Vaccinate against rabies all dogs, cats and ferrets in the municipality of Alhama de Murcia.

路 Diagnose and control other diseases, particularly hydatidosis and leishmaniasis.

路 Raise awareness among the population about their essential collaboration in the control of these diseases.

路 Inform about other measures that affect dogs, such as the obligation to install the microchip, to avoid the abandonment of excrement on public roads and to have a license if the animal is potentially dangerous.

The term began on July 1 and ends on August 31, 2019 and can be done at the veterinary clinics of Alhama, at the established dates and times and at a reduced price.

It is necessary to go with the DNI.

The campaign is mandatory for dogs and ferrets from three and a half months of age and for cats from five months of age.

What is rabies?

The rabies, also known as hydrophobia because it produces horror to the water, is produced by the infection of a rod-shaped virus that infects the central nervous system and produces acute encephalitis.

Attacks mammals, both wild and domestic, including humans.

In natural areas the bat is the main vector of rabies, while in urban areas it is the dog.

The best way to prevent the spread of this disease is the vaccination of these animals.

路 Since June 2013, rabies has been officially declared in Spain, as well as in other countries of the European Union.

The last officially recognized case took place that year in Toledo.

路 The animals vaccinated for the first time will be given an official health card.

路 If the vaccination is the second or later the owner of the animal must be provided with the corresponding health card.

路 Animals that meet the minimum age of vaccination after the end of the campaign may go to any of the clinics cited for, without penalty, proceed to it.

路 As of the end date of the campaign, all dogs whose owners do not have a vaccination health card or a microchip can be picked up as vagabonds.

Of course, they can not circulate on public roads unless they are covered by the health card duly completed.

路 Non-vaccination or non-performance of mandatory treatments is considered a serious infraction and can be punished with a fine of between 300 and 2,400 euros.

路 However, vaccination costs in the clinics of Alhama 22 euros if carried out during the months of July and August and 25 if it is done during the rest of the year (data not to spread).

Microchip implementation

路 The identification of the dogs must be carried out OBLIGATORYLY by the implantation of a microchip, which is usually placed on the left side of the animal's neck, next to the ear.

That microchip contains a code that allows you to identify the animal and its owner.

The time of vaccination may be the most appropriate to implement this identification system.

路 It is compulsory from the third month of life or at the end of one month after its acquisition (as long as the animal is already three months old).

路 The non-identification of the animal is a serious infraction and can be sanctioned with a fine between 1,501 and 6,000 euros.

Location of a dog

路 This is one of the advantages of the microchip: locate the owner of an abandoned or lost dog or locate who can have a missing dog.

路 Dog abandoned or lost: The Local Police or the company dedicated to the collection of abandoned or lost dogs identify the animal through the code of their microchip and perform their search in the census of dogs of Alhama de Murcia.

This also locates its owner.

The dog poop

路 The regulations require the owner of a dog to remove their excreta from the public road.

It is a hygienic-sanitary issue of transcendental importance, not only for aesthetic reasons or for the risks of falling or dirt for other passers-by, but also because the faeces are a refuge for numerous pathogenic microorganisms.

路 Given that the regulations prohibit the movement of a dog on the public road without a leash or chain and without being subject to its owner or possessor, the dog can not be released from home to perform its physiological needs without control anywhere.

路 The removal of feces deposited on the public road a dog does not cost any money to its owner.

However, the fine for not withdrawing it ranges between 301 and 750 euros.

Therefore, picking up the dog poop is like collecting 300 euros.

Dangerous animal

路 Different breeds and sizes of dogs are classified as potentially dangerous.

Whoever owns a dog with these characteristics must possess the so-called Municipal License for the Tenure of Potentially Hazardous Animals.

路 It is requested at the Town Hall and to obtain it, it is necessary to submit various documents, among others a criminal certificate, which is processed by the City Council itself, and civil liability insurance.

路 For the granting of the license the City Council charges 35 euros.

The fine for not having it ranges between 2,404 and 15,025 euros.

Normative

路 Of pet ownership, that is, everything that has to do with the purchase of an animal, its identification, vaccinations, circulation through public spaces, etc .: Regional Law 6/2017, on Protection and Defense of the Animals of Company, State Law 50/1999, on the Legal Regime of the Possession of Potentially Hazardous Animals, royal decrees 287/2002 and 1.570 / 2007, that develop that Law, and Municipal Ordinance on Protection and Tenure of Animals of Company, of 1998, modified in 2002.

路 The removal of faeces from public roads, the Municipal Ordinance on Road Cleaning and Municipal Waste Management, of 2012.

路 These rules are available to anyone who wants to consult the Department of Animal Welfare of the City of Alhama.

The municipal ordinances are available on the website ayuntamiento.alhamademurcia.es.
