The Ministry of Education is committed to approve the tender for the new IES Valle de Leiva this October (08/10/2019)

This morning the mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Mariola Guevara, and the Councilor for Education, María José López, held a meeting in the Ministry of Education with the new Director General of Educational Centers, Verónica López.

The main theme of the meeting has been to address the delay in the bidding process for the works of the new IES Valle de Leiva, after the Ministry acquired the commitment last year to pass this process by the third governing council of the month of January.

In this sense, the Mayor and the Councilor for Education have expressed her "deep malaise" for what they consider "a succession of unjustified delays."

Guevara explained to the director that "she has been holding back the educational community of Alhama these last four years before the verbal commitments that the Ministry was acquiring in the successive meetings that have been held since 2015 to date. But a point has come he who does not sustain this expansion and we are not willing to continue justifying any other delay that may occur. "

Verónica López has pledged that the bidding of the works pass by the government council before the end of this month of October, so that the work on the site of El Praíco could begin in an approximate period of six months.

Both Mariola Guevara and Mª José López have shown their willingness "to continue alongside the educational community of Alhama for how many actions they decide to take if this last deadline is not met."

For the construction of the center, Europe granted an economic item through the Regional Development Fund (ERDF) that is close to expiration, so it is "essential that it be built as soon as possible or will result in its loss" , explains the Mayor.

In addition to the new institute, an issue has been addressed concerning two individual cases of girls of schooling age in Early Childhood Education with rare diseases that require specific resources for their correct attention in the Alhama educational centers.

The Director General has taken note and will transfer it to the Area of Attention to Diversity.

They have also transferred the situation of a particular case of school transport in the hamlet of El Berro.

In this sense Verónica López has expressed her willingness to contact the company responsible for the service to find a solution.

Finally, from the City Council they wanted to know the situation in which the 'Shadow Plan' is and the process of removing asbestos from the roofs of the educational centers of the municipality.

In this regard, the Ministry has indicated that planning will be done until 2028 for the progressive withdrawal of this material from all schools in the Region.

Guevara has asked the Director General to report this plan to the different management teams of the centers so that they know first hand the action schedule that will be carried out.
