The City Council transfers the main needs of Alhama to the new IMAS director (15/10/2019)

The mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Mariola Guevara, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Nani Navarro, met this morning with the new managing director of the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS), Raquel Cancela, and the deputy director general of Older Persons of this entity, Mª Auxiliadora Moreno, taking advantage of your visit to the municipality today to visit the Virgen del Rosario residence and the Seniors day center.

The meeting comes after the letter sent to the director on September 12 by Nani Navarro, in which the councilor explained the collaboration that has been maintained by the City of Alhama with the IMAS in the management of various services, both with own means, as through agreements-subsidies.

"In the last months we have reiterated to that institution the need to solve the existing difficulties in the services, as well as to advance in alternatives and proposals for improvement, understanding that its approach is urgent", explains Navarro.

The councilor has also mentioned the various meetings held with the heads of the different departments of the Murciano Institute of Social Action with the aim of transferring the needs presented by the residents of Alhama in reference to the Dependent Persons Assistance System.

With respect to the day center for Dependent Persons with Intellectual Disability, the IMAS has an agreement signed with the Alhama City Council, which has recently been extended with the same number of places that were already subsidized (28).

In that sense they have transferred the need for the Autonomous Community to allocate funds for the maintenance and expansion of the infrastructure where this service is provided, "since it is necessary to provide it with specialized equipment for the development of workshops, as well as expand the spaces aimed at classroom-workshop to carry out a work focused on the development of skills and abilities of the users of this place, which was born as an occupational center and is now a day center with other needs to perform activities with them, work and enhance its autonomy and insertion, "he says.

Likewise, for the day center for Dependent Elderly People, the IMAS has an agreement signed with this City Council for 25 places, "which are insufficient, with a permanent waiting list for access to the center, so it is urgent to expansion of the number of places agreed upon. "

Likewise, they have transferred the need for funding from the Community for the maintenance and equipment of the building, "since these expenses have always been borne by the municipal budget."

Regarding the municipal center of Psychosocial Care, which currently serves 22 people with diverse mental health problems on a daily basis, Navarro has reiterated the request that the City Council has already made on several occasions on the need to establish a collaboration agreement to include it in the network of resources of the System of Attention to Persons with Dependencies such as SEPAP (Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy), because, despite serving people with different degrees of dependence, it is currently being fully funded from the budget City Hall itself with an amount of 94,000 euros, without obtaining favorable response so far.

As for the Home Help Service for Dependent Persons, Navarro has indicated that "this City Council, like many others, has the difficulty of having to assume the implementation of this service in our municipality, for which contributions The IMAS (price per hour of service) costs are lower than the actual costs, with the City Council having a hard time choosing between the suppression of the service in the municipality, or assuming the risks of starting a bidding process bound to be deserted. "

Finally, the Mayor has exposed the need to expand the Virgen del Rosario residence.

"We have told you that for some time we have made available to the Autonomous Community the land for its extension, because we are aware that the waiting lists for our residence are very long," says Guevara.

He also told them that the lower area, where the auditorium is located, cannot be used by regulations until it has an emergency door.

In this regard, the director of IMAS has raised the possibility of making a door to the outside in order to solve this deficiency, for which she will consult the regional technicians.

Raquel Cancela has committed to study the different requests made in this meeting, with the aim of being able to give them a solution.
