'Termal', by Esteban Bernal, is an invocation to Las Musas, Greek divinities, inspiring art, music and poetry, love, science, etc.
Exhibition project that arises from the search and inner turmoil of the artist, as in life, in each work of our creator, apart from his world, are the people and inspirations that make him stir.
Its concept of beauty integrated in the classical foundation leads him to pay homage to the thermal architecture.
We glimpse a Bernal, like Ulysses, on his return to Ithaca, to the essence, to the classical seed, which is always present in him.
Bernal quotes with his paintings his inspirations, based on the arts and culture, on his ideas, which are an extension of that knowledge and the mastery of decades of good work.
The exhibition at the Archaeological Museum of Los Baños de Alhama de Murcia, by way of Parnassus, a mythical mountain where Las Musas inhabits, receives Bernal's compositions, where each work can be viewed individually and together as a dialogue between them, in The same room.
In it we can capture the intensity in its maximum essence, the same sensation that Apollo would receive in its mount, is the art made poetry, paintings that emanate musicality, dictate balance and light, and make us travel, as Don Miguel de Cervantes did, in his work Journey of the Parnassus of 1614, in that journey together with the poets, Bernal with his works, is positioned in an allegorical battle, symbolic under the protection of realistic painting, and from the contemporary figurative revision that is where the artistic work is framed from Bernal
In 'Termal' architecture, textures and light merge, dreamed and visited environments, it is a tribute to architecture and water, creates silent pictorial territories, full of life, which allows us to enter the world of dreams.
The use of light and colors manage to confer sublime spaces for recreation and for the evocation of feelings of melancholy and mystery.
They are paintings where it presents simple spaces, and the greatness of the classical forms, arches, vaults, lintels, highlight the balanced forms, metaphors of their splendor, with the different parts of these thermal water spas, with areas for the different types of baths : tepidarium, caldarium or frigidarium.
They are paintings that capture the eternity of the moment, suspended in time through concrete brushstrokes and the use of color degradation, masterfully achieving the effect of light on water, in spaces or surfaces, in their works we can interpret the expressive mutations that document their internal and poetic cartography.
The exhibition is an invitation to delve into a painting that evokes stories and stories, it is a trip to the Mediterranean as an essence, where our artist has managed to collect the ebbs and flows of the sea, the banks, it is not in vain, our culture is the essence, the game product of the tides of centuries, with encounters and settlements from the Phoenicians to the present day, we are culture, fruit of the beats of the Mare Nostrum, cradle of our civilization, Bernal collects its essence masterfully.
The light, through it reinforces the materials used in the process, enhancing the atmosphere, are works in which you can caress the musicality between color and architecture.
Thermal, provokes a “game of mirrors†where the visitor has to find their roots, as spectators, we are like Perseus who with his polished shield faced the Gorgon or Medusa, metaphor of knowing how to recognize ourselves in the memory of our origins, to discover works cast in painting and poetry, in the words of the Greek poet Simónides de Ceos and which I subscribe to Bernal's works, which achieves certain values, "the painting is a silent poetry and poetry is a painting that speaks";
and like a Greek demigod, we have to let ourselves be impregnated by the deeds of Bernal, find that path, by which and, with art, he achieves in his compositions an integrating beauty of architecture with a surrounding environment, it is his source of conceptual inspiration
Works in which discards the accessory, sublimates the light and converts the perspectives, recognizable, into flashes of shadows that invite you to discover the spaces and wander their fields.
Thermal, it is a place, an interior landscape, an architecture that excites, caresses and possesses us.
Esteban Bernal
Born in La Unión (Murcia) in 1961, he studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
He currently teaches at the Baccalaureate of Arts as Professor of Drawing.
He has a long and recognized artistic career with more than 50 individual exhibitions.
He has been recognized with eleven national awards, including the Medal of Honor of the "VII BMW Award" in Madrid.
He has participated in more than 120 collective exhibitions inside and outside the national territory.
As a sculptor he has made numerous works for squares, public buildings, trophies, monuments and highways.
His artistic restlessness has led him to express himself in multiple facets of plastic and image.
Although his beginnings were in painting, he soon shared this discipline with sculpture.
Within the field of graphic design he has designed different magazines, publications, music CDs, logo creation;
as well as illustrations, book covers and the elaboration of 15 posters, some of them of national and international diffusion.
In the field of serial reproduction he has made five folders with different printing techniques.
As a set designer he has designed five sets for the International Festival of Cante de Las Minas.
He has also developed his artistic work using new multimedia technologies with the realization of several audiovisual and video mapping.
His work is represented in private collections inside and outside our borders, in museums, agencies and official institutions
