Alhama stands up to machismo on the occasion of November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (18/11/2020)

The Department of Equality of the Alhama de Murcia City Council and the center of attention to women victims of gender violence (CAVI) commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25) with a program of activities and actions of communication with the aim of continuing to make the population aware of the situation many women go through and the importance of confronting sexist behaviors.Nani Navarro has pointed out that "violence against women has become a structural problem that is directed towards them in order to maintain or increase their subordination to the male gender.

Its origin is found in the lack of equity in relationships between men and women in different fields and in the persistent discrimination against women ".

He has also expressed that "it is a social problem that is found both in the domestic sphere and in the public, in different aspects: physical, sexual, psychological, economic, cultural and others, and affects women from birth to birth.

elderly women.

It is not confined to a specific culture, region or country, nor to specific groups of women in society.

"Among the keys to fighting violence against women and advancing in prevention is education and an adequate response from the justice system that avoids impunity.

"Achieving gender equality necessarily involves" transforming social rules "and the roles that subordinate women," Navarro has indicated. There was a time when you walked alone, wrote alone, studied alone, and dressed alone.

Remember that momentThe 25N 2020 campaign is directed, on the one hand, to the adult public, inspired by one of the poems of the feminist author Monique Wittig.

It is an optimistic message for those women who have been, or are going through, a situation of sexist violence, reminding them that they can regain their life, like the one they had before that situation of violence. These women are represented next to a door that opens, which suggests a way out of that situation and recalls that the City Council offers accompaniment and support services, with figures of different types of women. The initiative seeks to convey a hopeful message: you can get out of this type of situation. On the other hand, the part focused on the young public uses a language close to adolescents, with the hashtag #PlantaCaraAlMachismoIt raises a reflection on topical, but real, phrases in which the idea of ??superiority of men over women and, therefore, the belief in having rights over them underlies.

It reveals a situation of subjection of women through the culture and the macho society in which we live.

The focus of this campaign is the young public that perpetuates the stereotypes on which machismo is based. The message transforms topical phrases, highlighting that macho part and offering a positive message:'The most romantic thing is to be jealous' becomes 'The most romantic thing is NOT to be jealous AND TRUST YOUR PARTNER'.'Whoever loves you well will make you cry', change to 'Whoever loves you well will NEVER make you cry OR PUSH YOU OR SHOUT YOU'.'Without you I am nothing' becomes' Without ME I am nothing.

SAY NO TO TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS.

'To give the campaign greater visibility, a series of posters and dynamic pieces have been made for the media, social networks and WhatsApp, which is financed by the Alhama de Murcia City Council, through the State Pact against Violence of Gender of the Government of Spain.
