New Rabies Vaccination Campaign 2016 (29/06/2016)

"No rabies and microchip" is the slogan of the campaign of vaccination against rabies that the Councillor for Health, Mariola Guevara, accompanied by Angel Roa, head of the Veterinary Center Alhama, presented this morning for vaccination against rabies in dogs, cats and ferrets.

The objectives of the campaign are:

Increase preventive measures to control rabies.

Rabies vaccination all dogs, cats and residents in the municipality of Alhama de Murcia ferrets.

Diagnose and control other diseases, including hydatid disease and leishmaniasis.

Raise awareness about their indispensable cooperation in the control of these diseases.

Report other measures that affect dogs such as the obligation to install them the microchip, the to avoid the abandonment of excrement in the street and be licensed if the animal is potentially dangerous.

The period runs from 1 July to 31 August 2016 and can be done at veterinary clinics Alhama, on the dates and times established in the enclosed brochure.

During the campaign, the price of vaccination will be 22 euros, 25 euros the rest of the year.

Similarly, if during the campaign implanted with vaccination identification chip, which costs 38 euros, the price of vaccination with the identification chip will be 55 euros, assuming a saving of 8 euros.

The campaign is compulsory for dogs and ferrets from three and a half months old and for cats from five months of age.

What is rabies?

No vaccination or non-performing compulsory treatment is considered a serious offense and can be punished with a fine of between 300 and 2,400 euros.

Microchipping

The identification of dogs must be conducted by implanting a microchip, which is usually placed on the left side of the animal's neck, next to the ear.
