The Official State Gazette published last August 5 the approval of the layout project to extend the A-7 highway to a third lane, in a stretch of 23.3 kilometers between Alhama de Murcia and the link with Alcantarilla.
The recent installation of companies such as Primafrío and Cerón Fruits, as well as the possibility of the arrival of new merchants along with this highway, entail an important traffic of vehicles in the area, especially heavy roads that currently circulate along the service road on both banks.
With the current project, these vehicles would continue to circulate along the same route and could cause damage to traffic and road safety in the access balconies and service roads.
The flow of users of these roads, such as cyclists, vehicles that perform agricultural work, etc.
they add to the possible risks.
Therefore, the Local Government Board recently made a claim to the project, requiring the Ministry of Development to complete the semielace of the Algeciras Dam at kilometer 596 (current), providing direct entry and exit from Almeria and direct exit to Almería with its corresponding branches to the link.
He also requested to transfer the agreement to the Demarcation of Roads of the State in Murcia, as well as to the Ministry of Presidency and Development of the Autonomous Community.
Work to extend the A-7 highway
The origin of the new action is located at the kilometer point 627.3 * of the highway at the height of Alhama de Murcia and ends at the junction of Alcantarilla, at kilometer 650.6 *.
The project, to be executed by the Ministry of Development with a budget of 97.3 million, includes the construction of two lanes, one in each direction, 3.5 meters and external shoulders 2.5 meters and interiors of 1.50 meters.
Two overpasses will also be built and the demolition of the existing ones will be carried out, the transversal drainage works and the underpasses will be expanded, in addition to reordering some existing accesses.
