Important reception from the citizens of Alhama chat "Control of red palm weevil in the Region of Murcia", held on Thursday 17 November at the Business Incubator for Women.
Organized by the Department of Environment, was as rapporteur for D.
Crevillén Telesforo Garcia, manager of the Plant Protection Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water in the Region of Murcia.
It was attended by more than 50 people, including individuals who were both palms owners, technicians and workers involved in the world of gardening (local business and the council itself), and with persons who were interested without palm trees on the subject.
The speaker made a tour of the biology of this beetle, the way in which attacks palm trees, these have symptoms and treatments applied.
He stressed that the problem is extremely serious because there is no product or procedure that is one hundred percent effective, so that if nothing is done we can lose our palms thoroughly in a short space of time.
One of the data provided in the talk is that so far this year and by using a series of traps sampling the Health Service is divided by different municipalities of the region, catches have been recorded in the same of about 41,000 adult.
Telesforo Garcia also noted that, given the virulence and the modus operandi of this pest, it is necessary in the fight against it on the cooperation of the population.
For this reason this type of talk used to try to prevent the infestation of the palms (for red palm weevil in particular), and to identify the symptoms by avoiding precocious death of the tree through various types of treatments.
