The new access to the Castle, which allow local heritage tour, have been visited this morning by the Minister of Culture and Tourism (22/05/2013)

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, arrived this morning to Alhama de Murcia in order to visit the new access allowing visits to Castle in the town, almost entirely restored.

The City Council of Alhama de Murcia has been developing since 2004 various stages to rescue Catillo Alhama, Islamic era fortification built in the late S.XI.

The Castle has two walled (upper and lower) and the access is through a path carved into the rock that comes from the first side door defended by a tower and loopholes.

In order to value this important monument, City Hall, with public funds from the CARM and the Ministry of Development has been achieving various phases to finish its value.

This project was developed primarily for the concession of 1% Culture, Ministry of Development and Culture.

With this new grant, the City will complete the restoration of the Castle and its value since, in said step planned would be undertaken accesses and several works on the lower enclosure.

The stoppage of this aid and the current situation had left unfinished this expensive work, mostly, prepared for the visit of neighbors.

In view of the large number of people climbing up the hill to visit all the work already completed the Consistory began working on the possibility of creating a temporary access, until they could carry out the definitive access (with part Disabled, special access ...)

This temporary access has been completed and, thanks to him, you can make visits to all the restored area.

Since opening a few weeks ago, is being organized tours that have a large number of people and even generate waiting list.

This temporary access is the use of certain walking paths from the garden of the Archaeological Museum of Los Baños and installation of metal stairs on sections of slope.

The works of this access have been assumed by the city of Alhama through the donation of a company.
