The AECC plant Alhama "The Tree of Life" (04/02/2016)

Today on February 4, DAY WORLD CANCER, members of the Spanish Association Against Cancer Alhama de Murcia, have been planted "Tree of Life" in the Garden of the Americas, as a tribute to all those who face cancer, to send a message of hope, life and unity against cancer.

Next to the "Tree of Life" has installed a stone monolith which is placed a plate with the message "your memory rooted in this tree sustains our hope."

Charo de la Vega, President of the AECC in Alhama commented that cancer is a problem of 1st magnitude that affects one in three men and one in four women, throughout life.

In Spain the incidence of 200,000 cases per year.

However, you have to look with hope, and that has increased life expectancy in the main tumors, and always thanks to scientific advances and research, one of the pillars of the AECC.

In Murcia, (data 2015) more than 7000 new cases of cancer each year, leading, more than 60,000 families are involved in this problem of diagnosis and treatment, also increasing the number of single people who need help are found to face the oncologic disease.

From the AECC want to spread more than ever this message, "If you think you're alone do not know us" since there is a growing n ° of cancer patients who need help, and AECC has set the challenge for the coming years, to ensure volunteerism within the comprehensive care of the cancer patient and the family.

Charo also noted that the Programme for the Prevention of Colon Cancer is the result of the AECC of Murcia and the Ministry of Health, and that they have launched this program in Murcia, and from there have spread to other communities .

It also put forward that the AECC in Murcia, funded for three years and amounting to 40,000 euros per year research grant, a project for the Region of Murcia, and is currently under evaluation and award.
