APEDSE opposes the dismantling of the Ducks Garden (29/05/2009)

Note from APEDSE:

The Association for the study and defense of the Espuña, APEDSE, disagrees with the proposed redevelopment of the Garden of the Ducks, because it will eliminate the pergolas and natural shades of the Garden, including a third source in a small space, forcing remove mature trees and vegetation will continue with the dark floor design, similar to that of Raso of the Church of St. Lazarus and C / Fair, the proposed vegetation type chosen for the Street Fair with little shade species , and the placement, if any, of shadows and artificial pergolas.

The environmental association asked the City Council to be carried out relevant studies in order to avoid possible irreparable damage to existing trees and to take appropriate measures that ensure that existing columns are maintained or replaced by items that meet the support function , but always respecting the shade plant, with their vines (begonias, jasmine, etc.), and if possible, increased.

Also, to recover pre-existing elements of the garden, especially in the vicinity of the source of Bastarreche, like the figures on the floor and tile banks, among others, and to maintain the unity of design throughout the area, tending to maintain at least the same number of seats, including the location as they are placed, in some cases, banks put together.

Mayor's proposal passed by the arrest of the project planned to begin studying the possibilities of a project that seeks the recovery of structure design and remodeling done before for years.

And also when deciding on the future of the garden are taken into account criteria such as the shade, the smell, color and moisture are part of the identity of the alhameños and improves quality of life of its neighbors that the vegetation of a garden is not problematic for disposal justifiable, and that ultimately, there is no objective reason, other than the purely aesthetic, to justify the urgency of the renovation.

Members of APEDSE them suggests that remodeling projects is based on models that have to be modern, do not respond to their climates and do not respect the recent past, the history of alhameños they saw as co nstruía and we have enjoyed since then.

APEDSE agree with some points of the project and which are the preservation of existing trees, making the garden accessible to all residents by eliminating steps and slopes, while not endangering the survival of the trees, and maintaining the two sources that have traditionally existed.

We also propose to extend the consultations so far carried out to all citizens and that this association is grateful.

Last Tuesday, May 19, 2009, several neighbors and members of APEDSE met with the Mayor of the Municipality and Town Planning Councillor, including City Council members and presented several designs for redevelopment of Garden Street and Los Patos Fair, produced by the local corporation.
