Local Police Alhama de Murcia launches a new vehicle to patrol rural areas (07/07/2009)

Local Police Alhama de Murcia has today a new all-terrain vehicle to be used to patrol the rural areas of the municipality, and which cost 31,202 euros, was financed by the Ministry of the Presidency and government.

The Minister, María Pedro Reverte, today delivered the car to the local mayor, Juan Romero, during the course of a visit that also monitored the progress of work on the new headquarters of the local police alhameña, located on the street Station.

The acquisition of the new vehicle is part of the support of the Directorate General of Local Government to improve law enforcement functions, and adds to the nearly 65,000 euros granted to the City of Alhama de Murcia for the years 2006 and 2007, which was used to the purchase of two vehicles and two motorcycles.

The purpose of these grants is to improve local police services in Alhama de Murcia, which has a staff of 43 agents, of which ten are located within the Public Safety Unit of the Regional Security Plan.

New Local Police station

The launch of the Regional Public Safety Plan has made to this county a strong increase in staff and material resources of the Local Police, and has therefore been necessary to undertake the construction of a new police headquarters, to provide adequate facilities to the size of the current public safety service.

The minister and the mayor visited the headquarters of the future works, whose investment exceeds one million euros, and the Autonomous Community has contributed 600,000 euros, under the agreement signed between both governments in December 2007.

The facilities of the Local Police and Civil Protection Service of Alhama de Murcia is located in a public parking basement of the Plaza de la Constitution, who, according to Reverte "not currently meet the conditions to accommodate the template police, or to adequately serve the citizens. "

The Minister of Presidency stressed that investment in improved law enforcement and renewal of infrastructure demonstrate the commitment and support of the Regional Government to the municipalities to "provide all residents of more and better services," adding that the new headquarters "will a quantum leap for the safety of the residents of Alhama.

Improved services to citizens

The Minister of Presidency stressed the effort that the regional government is doing with all the municipalities in the Region of Murcia for public services to citizens are not affected, especially in these times of crisis.

In this regard, said that since the beginning of the Legislature so far have invested in Alhama de Murcia, charged to the various grants and subsidies to local government, about 2.3 million euros, which join annual allocations from the Regional Public Safety Plan, which in 2009 is estimated to exceed 300,000 euros.

These funds have been used mainly to improve municipal public infrastructure and water lighting, street paving, building new recreation areas and playgrounds, as well as to sustain the running costs associated with the provision of services citizens.

In this sense, Reverte took the opportunity to recall the urgent need for the Government of the Nation address "urgent" Local Finance System, "as the only way to solve the solvency problem with the municipalities to meet current expenditures."
