This Tuesday, June 12, the users of the Alhama de Murcia dependent day center visited the Cavalli Foundation, within its program 'Longevos por el Pelos', which seeks the benefit for the elderly through assisted interventions with animals rescued and retired, carrying out several workshops.
The first one of equine hygiene, where brushing and showering of horses and ponies have been carried out for users, emphasizing the importance of self-care.
Likewise, elders who have had contact with animals in their lives have shared these memories with their companions, encouraging autobiographical memory.
The users have made a brief tour with the horse, foot to land, where they gave importance to physical exercise as a crucial element for a healthy aging.
Another of the workshops has been aimed at sensory stimulation through aromatic plants.
Each user has planted a carrot seed that they have taken to the center to continue caring for it.
They have also enjoyed a workshop where those responsible have explained to the elderly the different foods of the horses and then feed them, encouraging exercise and, once again, sensory stimulation.
Finally they have participated in a therapeutic game with Luna, the dog of the Foundation.
The Department of Social Services appreciates the professionalism and enthusiasm with which the people in charge of the day center work, continuously innovating in activities complementary to the daily work, which they offer in a playful and fun way to maintain the capacities of each one of them. the users.
