It has been four decades of success, of historical moments, epic even, which in this 2018 commemorates one of the municipalities with the greatest athletic tradition of our land, one of the great clubs of the Region of Murcia.
The Alhama Athletics Club celebrates 40 years and this Saturday was the event to celebrate its anniversary, with Guadalentín Sports Complex as the setting for the event.
A truly special meeting that featured the interventions of the club's president, Javier Aledo, as well as Diego Valero;
Toni López, ex-athlete and ex-trainer, one of the great pioneers of athletics in Alhama;
Alfonso Cerón, founding member of the club and sports councilor of the municipality at the time the athletics track was opened;
Ángel Roa, athlete from the Athletics Club Alhama;
as well as the councilor of Sports, Antonio José Caja, the mayor Mariola Guevara and Diego Conesa, former mayor of Alhama and current delegate of the Government in Murcia.
There was no lack of emotion throughout the evening, where Javier Aledo was recognized thanks to his career as an athlete, coach and current president, which was delivered by the international athlete Ginés Hidalgo.
Of course, Óscar Sánchez Andreo's footprint became clear again, and two of his athletes, Mayte Torres and Joaquín Morales, dedicated a few words full of gratitude and affection to whoever was their coach, one of the most important figures for athletics Alhameño in recent years.
They would also give a commemorative sculpture of this 40th anniversary to his mother and sister, in memory of Oscar.
It should also be noted that the celebration coincided with the arrival of the machines to the athletics track, in order to start the reform work that will enable the return of the competitions to the municipality.
Antonio José Caja made public the intention of the government team that, at the time of its reopening, the track be baptized with the name of the most important athlete in the history of Alhama, Antonio Peñalver.
In the same way, Caja encouraged to resume a competition that once was of international importance, the Combined Testing Center, proposing that it be named Óscar Sánchez Andreo.
