José Guirao, Minister of Culture and Sports, visited the municipality of Alhama de Murcia (Murcia) this weekend to attend the unique Encuentro de Domingo de Resurrección, the most important event of his Holy Week.
Guirao arrived in Alhama on Saturday night, where he had the opportunity to learn about the work carried out by the five brotherhoods and brotherhoods of the locality (Moraos, Coloraos, Azules, Blancos and Negros) with the flower arrangements of the thrones.
A work in which brother brothers work throughout the morning.
This Sunday morning, the Minister traveled to the Los Baños Archaeological Museum, accompanied by the mayor Mariola Guevara, to take a guided tour of this building that has housed the thermal spa that gives its name to the municipality since Roman times.
There Guirao signed in the book of honor of Alhama in the unique environment of the vaulted room of this museum, used as a space for bathing by various cultures for 2,000 years until the nineteenth century.
At 11:00 the meeting was scheduled, the most spectacular and happy moment of Holy Week in Alhama, unparalleled in any other locality of the Region, where the different brotherhoods and brotherhoods come out in procession with their titular images, covers on shoulders and with huge flower ornaments that defy gravity, accompanied by bands, making different itineraries that converge in the center of the city.
Thousands of neighbors and visitors gather at that point, next to the Garden of Los Patos, waiting for the most important moment of the parades of passion: the meeting of the risen Jesus with his Sorrowful Mother, accompanied by San Juan, Verónica and María Magdalena.
That is when the sepulcher opens and a white dove flies out, while the risen Jesus appears and the mourning cloak of the Virgin falls to the ground.
The bands then begin to play with great intensity and the portapasos raise with their hands the thrones towards the sky to the sound of the music and in the middle of a thunderous applause.
Today, due to the threat of rain, an impromptu meeting has been organized in front of the Black Step headquarters, where the Virgen de los Dolores and San Juan have fulfilled the tradition and the mantle has fallen, the thrones have danced and the bands have sound strong.
Also the Paso Morao has walked to the Risen Christ around its headquarters, and all of them have remained open until the early afternoon so that neighbors and tourists could visit them, taking as a souvenir the flowers that have adorned each of the images .
The Holy Week of Alhama was declared of Regional Tourist Interest in March of 1995.
