The cyclist Alejandro Valverde will have a prominent place with his name in Alhama, after all the political groups that make up the municipal corporation approved in the April plenary session to start a file to erect a monument in the La Boquera roundabout, in homage to this distinguished athlete, who has a strong professional and personal relationship with Alhama.
Valverde started his career in 2002. At 38, he has 122 professional wins, including seven medals in World Championships (one gold, two silver and four bronzes), a victory in the 2009 Vuelta a España, four wins in the Liège-Bastogne-Liège, five celebrations in the Walloon Flecha and two in the classic San Sebastian.
By stages, it has eleven wins in La Vuelta, four in the Tour de France and one in the Giro d'Italia.
His greatest achievement came when he won the 2018 World Championship, which made "all the citizens of Murcia feel proud of their region, and many millions of Spaniards were also proud to be proud of it", highlights the motion.
The image of the athlete will give name to the roundabout located in La Boquera that gives access to the road of the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña, which has passed through our municipality so many times.
Paying tribute to all Alhameños and thousands of bicycle lovers, in particular, who visit Sierra Espuña daily.
