The mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Mariola Guevara, and the president of the Red Cross in the municipality, José Luis Garre, have signed a new cooperation agreement with the aim of improving the quality of life and welfare of those residents who lack economic resources or that may be at risk of social exclusion, applying, among other means, subsidies or financial aid.

The City Council, through its Department of Social Services, provides for this year a total of 35,000 euros to Red Cross Alhama to deal with emergencies or urgent need for families and neighbors registered in the municipality, as well as joint collaboration in volunteer activities of an educational nature.

The Municipal Social Services Center will be responsible for managing these demands, studying and checking each case before transferring it to the managing entity.

Once the need is verified, the Red Cross will be responsible for its processing.

The agreement will benefit those residents who are registered in the municipality of Alhama de Murcia and who due to family, economic, physical or mental circumstances have difficulties to carry out a normalized life.

It establishes aid for the basic equipment of the house, as well as for minor repairs, basic facilities and urgent adaptations;

also for the payment of household supplies that are subject to a court notice;

help for medication expenses;

help for dental treatments, glasses, prostheses and orthoses;

and aid for travel and transportation expenses.

The aid will amount to a minimum of 50 euros and a maximum of 300 euros per year per family, although it may be increased by another 300 euros to support the processes of integration and labor integration of people or families who are in a situation of marginalization and social exclusion, must be ascribed to a plan of family intervention, socio-educational or continuous social and labor insertion.

The applicant must be registered and reside in Alhama de Murcia at least the last three months and not exceed the established income limit (IPREM) in the agreement.
