The World City of Dialogue and Cultural Diversity celebrates for the second consecutive year the Alhama de Murcia City Council.
Unlike the previous year, in addition to holding a World Day commemorative day, this year also included educational and sensitizing activities, aimed at both native and foreign population.
It is an initiative of the Department of Social Services in collaboration with various educational centers in the town.
Specifically, the activity has been organized and coordinated from the Municipal Service of Intercultural Mediation and Translation, developed by Habitat Cultural, and for its development has had the active involvement of Educational Centers Ricardo Codorniú, Prince of Spain, Ntra. Sra. Del Rosario and Ginés Díaz, as well as with the students of the family support and information and social orientation workshops.
The initiative, which has been developing in the last month, is composed of three actions:
Sensitization of children and primary school students, using as a tool a didactic material, entitled "Talk to me about you", which addresses the need to share both friendship and games, experiences and traditions of the different cultures that coexist daily in school classrooms.
Finally the kids have created works of plastic expression where they expose the learning obtained, which have been exhibited in the Town Hall Square, during the Day of Celebration on May 21.
More than 150 schoolchildren from the municipality participated in this initiative.
Development of several workshops on Approach to Cultural Diversity, developed in the family support and information and social orientation workshops (PEPAFIS), where the importance of coexistence and interaction that exists between different cultures within a shared geographical space is discussed by a group of people or society.
Likewise, we try to develop the learning of a common language, knowledge of the foreign culture, re-knowledge of our own culture, eliminate prejudices, development of empathy and openness to communication with other cultures.
Around 45 people participated in this initiative, during several sessions held in recent weeks.
