The companies of Grupo Fuertes, CEFUSA and eLPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN are working, together with the University of Murcia and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, on the ClearFarm project with the objective of scientifically measuring the level of welfare of farm animals and thus achieving a sustainable production of pig and dairy cattle at European level.
Specifically, this innovative initiative will design a European reference platform to guarantee animal welfare throughout the livestock production chain, providing information on it to both the members of the food chain itself and to final consumers.
In the first phase, CEFUSA and eLPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN will investigate a protocol to objectively measure the level of animal health and welfare through the non-invasive analysis of biomarkers of stress, inflammation and oxidation at the physiological level.
Subsequently, these analyzes will be incorporated into a digital platform that will be tested in different pig farms to validate their operation and usefulness.
Finally, the connected platform will provide, through an algorithm, information that is easy to understand about animal welfare adapted to each audience.
This project has a duration of 4 years, is funded by the prestigious Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission and has the participation of 14 institutions belonging to 6 different countries.
Animal welfare, which remains a priority objective of livestock and food production, faces the important challenge of evolving and improving through a more objective, accurate and modern evaluation system that also allows ensuring the most sustainable production possible.
CEFUSA and eLPOZO ALIMENTACIÓN are committed to the safest and most environmentally friendly models and to apply the most advanced techniques that guarantee the safest and most sustainable solutions for the future of the livestock sector and the rural environment.
