During the second weekend of February, on the 8th and 9th, Alhama de Murcia will celebrate its Matanza Festival, which this year reaches the 10th edition.
For this, Pedro López, councilor of Festejos, has advanced the poster announcing the event, which this year has a wide range of activities including live music, exhibitions, craft tastings, awards ceremony, etc.

The Fiesta de la Matanza is a celebration different from those organized throughout the Spanish geography, where a group of matachines demonstrates live how is the cutting of the pig and the elaboration of the sausage according to the traditional recipes of this land.
The slaughter of the pig in Alhama de Murcia, as in many places, was the basis of family feeding for years.
Winter was the right time for the sausage not to spoil.
What was initially necessary as well as festive, eventually became a party and tradition.
