The City Council of Alhama de Murcia, through its Department of Social Welfare, has urgently processed 63 grants for minors, in order to guarantee the basic right to food for children in vulnerable situations, who are affected by the closure of school canteens.
These assists are granted to materialize the measures set forth in Royal Decree-Law 7/2020, of March 12, by which urgent measures are adopted to respond to the economic impact of Covid-19. They have been awarded through two different modalities, adapted to the needs of each family.
Firstly, a total of 53 minors have received financial aid in the amount of € 189.44 per child, corresponding to € 5.12 for each business day, in the period from March 16 to May 8 , both inclusive.
Later, once the date of May 8 has arrived, if the school canteens remain closed, the aid will be expanded with the corresponding amount.
Another group made up of 11 children, who are in a situation of greater vulnerability and / or social risk, are beneficiaries of a home menu, through which the right to healthy, balanced and age-appropriate food is guaranteed. The City Council has made a great effort to process the aid, allocating its own financial resources to anticipate and guarantee this basic right to food.
Likewise, it should be noted that the urgent processing of these grants has been possible thanks to the collaboration and speed in the management of the lists of boys and girls by the educational centers of the municipality.
