The Alhameña María José Guarinos and the Extremaduran Francis Megías have joined their voices to give life to the song 'They have Alhama and Monesterio', a theme that speaks of the two municipalities, their culture and their people. It all started in 2013, when María José, a music fan and member of several local groups, heard on YouTube one of the works of the composer and musician Francis Megías, titled 'Amiga'.
She contacted him to send him the chords and the lyrics, which she sang and dedicated to a friend on her wedding day.Since then the contact between them has been constant.
Two years ago Maria José Guarinos fell in love with the song 'Tengo Monesterio' (by the name of the composer's hometown) and decided to adapt the lyrics to Alhama.
A version of the song was included on the last album of the Sonata Musicians Workshop, presented in 2019.Now, since confinement, with a new musical base by Alfonso Seijo, the voices of María José Guarinos and Francis Megías, and the production of Jaime Gómez, have released a video on social networks with the music 'They have Alhama and Monesterio' which includes images, customs and feelings. Megías and Guarinos want to go one step further, carrying out -whenever possible- an exchange between the Sonata Musicians Workshop and the Cuadrilla de La Costera with the choir 'A punta pala', directed by Megías in Monesterio (Extremadura), to to play in both places and, who knows, if to reach a twinning between the two towns, which share the tradition of ham and now also, this beautiful musical initiative.
