The updated official data of positive cases in Alhama (Sunday 23 August) place our municipality with 47 positives in the last 14 days, of which 32 have occurred in the last week.As this City Council announced last Friday after the CECOPAL meeting, the increase in coronavirus cases in the Region of Murcia was experiencing a new upward curve.Today the Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, explained the new measures that will come into force this Wednesday, August 26 and that affect meetings, celebrations and capacity in premises. The maximum number of non-cohabiting people who can meet in private homes or in terraces and restaurants is reduced from ten to six.Celebrations such as weddings, baptisms and communions are limited to a maximum number of 30 people.
Regarding wakes, no more than 15 people may congregate in closed places, or more than 25 in open spaces. It is also reduced to 40% of the capacity inside hotels and restaurants.
This measure was already being applied in Lorca and is now also being implemented in Murcia, Alhama de Murcia, Abarán and Fuente Álamo. In addition, those over 65 are recommended not to go out on the street unless it is out of extreme necessity, not even to do the shopping.
In this sense, the City Council, since the beginning of the pandemic, has a service to help people in this age range who do not have family support. In a communication today with the Minister of Health, Mayor Mariola Guevara has been interested in the possibility that Alhama has a Covid test point, after being advanced by the General Director of Public Health and the Managing Director of the Murcian Health Service at the meeting last Friday. From the City Council of Alhama de Murcia we ask all neighbors to avoid any type of meeting between non-living relatives or friends.
Also the maximum individual responsibility and that all the safety measures recommended by the health authorities are strictly complied with, such as the mandatory use of a mask, permanent hand hygiene, maintaining social distance and fleeing from crowds. The next few days will be crucial to know if Alhama is capable of containing the virus or if more restrictive measures should be applied as at the beginning of the pandemic.
