The Alhama de Murcia City Council has signed a new agreement with the Board of Brotherhoods and Passionate Brotherhoods of the municipality, for an amount of 16,615 euros, for the development of events and other activities related to Holy Week. The collaboration between the Alhameño Consistory and the Junta has been carried out each year with the aim of preserving, expanding and promoting the Holy Week processional parades, striving to improve the staging, increasing its solemnity and highlighting its singularities.
The municipal subsidy is used to help finance, among others, the musical training of local groups and bands -including the purchase of instruments and the acoustic conditioning of the venues-, as well as carry out the promotional and dissemination activities necessary for the granting of the Declaration of Festivities of National Tourist Interest for this event. The emergence of Covid-19 in 2020 has caused the practical suspension of the entire religious and cultural program of Holy Week, as well as other activities derived from it.
For this reason, this year's agreement is framed within other objectives of attending to the basic needs of the brotherhoods, such as the maintenance of the headquarters, thrones and images, and expenses of the internal functioning of each one of them, duly justified. The Board of Brotherhoods and Passionate Brotherhoods, in addition, is in charge each year of:Promote public worship of the mysteries of the Passion. Coordinate the organization of the processions, determining schedules and itineraries.Organize the band contest with regional and national repercussions.Dissemination activities with educational centers to publicize these traditions: painting and photography contests, open house sessions at the venues, guided tours, etc.Design and edition of the Easter magazine, in line with tourist projection and permanent improvement.Hold an annual exhibition in a local, regional or national space to publicize the processions.
