The health team at the Alhama health center has been in charge of vaccinating the 32 users and most of its 70 workers. The first resident to receive the injection was Dionisio S nchez, followed by Amalia C novas, both inmates of the center.
Two health workers have been in charge of preparing it to be injected into the recipients.
When finished, they remained seated in an adjoining room under observation in order to detect any adverse reaction.
Once the elderly were vaccinated, the dose was administered to the residence staff with a similar protocol. The mayor of Alhama, Mariola Guevara, has pointed out that "this dreaded third wave coincides with the administration of the vaccine, so we should not trust ourselves or relax, if not the opposite, continue to comply with all health recommendations" . The vaccine that has begun to be administered is the Pfizer-BioNTECH (Comirnaty®), which has high safety and efficacy and of which more than 200,000 doses have already been administered throughout Spain.
Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 95% effective in preventing laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases in people with no evidence of prior infections.
The vaccine consists of two doses separated by 21 days to complete the vaccination.
The protection offered by the vaccine begins seven days after the administration of the second dose.
