The brigades of the 2020-2021 County Employment Councils program, financed with a grant from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, are completing maintenance work on traditional trails, this time in the Sierra de La Muela, which began in mid-November.
The previous actions have been carried out on the trails of Cuesta del Salto, La Rellana, Los Corrales, Los Molinos and Fuente Borrego, among others. The works in this space are of two types, some with a forest hydrological nature, consisting of the repair and realization of new albarradas, gutters and drains, since the sierra presents a great erosion ¿½n by runoff.
The rest of the tasks are destined to the improvement of the path itself, such as the removal of loose stone from dragging, the elimination of furrows and gullies, the correction of slopes, the realization of new steps and improvement existing and new zigzags, all to improve traffic and safety for walkers. After completing these interventions, the team will travel to Gebas to continue work on the trails in this district.
Ï¿½ Antonio Espinosa, Councilor for the Environment, pointed out that "it is necessary to carry out this intervention since, after the period of confinement, many athletes and visitors have decided to go to La Muela to go hiking, one of the safer sports during this pandemic.
" Alejandro Tagua, forestry foreman in charge of these tasks, wanted to appeal to users so that "together we can take care of the mountain in a very easy way: not leaving garbage and without leaving the path. In 2018, the City Council put in value more than 30 kilometers of this network of trails, with a municipal investment of 26,000 euros. The Sierra de La Muela is located in the north of the municipality, with an area of ??1,600 hectares, geologically composed of sandstones, marl and conglomerates and declared a protected natural area in 1992.
