San Esteban Palace has opened this morning a representative exhibition of the Feast of the Mayos de Alhama de Murcia.
The event was attended Alhama delegation, headed by the mayor, Diego Conesa, the Councillor for Tourism and Celebrations, Alicia Martinez, some older corremayos in recent years, neighbors and media.
The president of the Community, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, accompanied by Noelia Arroyo, Minister of Culture and Spokesperson, defined the party of Los Mayos as a "colorful tradition and hallmark of the municipality with which the month of May is inaugurated in Alhama ".
The chief executive made these remarks while receiving the representatives of these parties, declared of Regional Tourist Interest.
The Mayor of Alhama, Diego Conesa, has encouraged all Murcia to visit the town, enjoy the party, tradition and hospitality of neighbors.
The exhibition, which is displayed in one of the halls of the headquarters of the Presidency of the Community, will be open until next Friday, May 6 Monday through Friday from 8.30 to 14.30, with another exhibition of the celebrations of the horses of Wine Caravaca de la Cruz.
Simon Garcia, commissioned to decorate the room for the occasion, explained that "this is an ancient tradition of pagan origin, which has evolved and now mixes elements oldest root, the symbolism of the arrival of spring, with other elements of the Christian tradition, like Cruces de Mayo ".
After the Civil War, the party was languishing until the point of almost total disappearance during the sixties and seventies.

The scene makes a thematic review of the history of Los Mayos, in which the critical scenes are combined, with the customs and corremayos.
The set includes a sample of emblematic signs of these years, as performed by the alhameño painter Aurelio in 1988 or Maria Dolores Andreo in 1989, and a promotional video of the party with information Los Mayos for visitors and tourists.
