The City of Alhama de Murcia, through the Department of Culture and Heritage, calls the Work Camp 2016, which will be held at the site of Las Paleras in the Cerro del Castillo, having as main objectives the excavation, consolidation, restoration and enhancement of archaeological heritage, adapting the work to training and practice of archaeological participants enabling them to ascertain a real way what is being studied in grades and master.
FIELD WORK IN 2016 RESERVOIR OF Paleras
The field development work will be carried out on the site of The Paleras the Cerro del Castillo that has been excavated since 2006. During these years has marked a line of work that aims to recover the walled town of emiral period (late eighth century until the mid-tenth century) and its citadel.
Each year is advancing in the excavation areas with very interesting results, both urban type and material.
The imposing defensive architecture of walls and towers, as the domestic architecture of houses, silos, roads, etc.
They bring us closer to the daily life of these centuries, both the quadrangular fortress as in the housing complex surrounded by a perimeter wall.
The decline and abandonment of the site around the year 950, seems to coincide with a large documented fire around the site to be put in relation to the creation of the Caliphate of Córdoba by Abderramán III and military control carried out in areas peripheral of al-Andalus, as was the case in the southeast.
The actions will develop during this field work in 2016, they are going to be directed towards the excavation of specific areas and consolidation and restoration of the walls and plastered with more problems deterioration, which is already carried out a campaign of consolidation and restoration.
This year is presented as a novelty the existence of two ways to participate in this field.
PLAZAS:
METHOD I. On the one hand have been offered 20 places to stay and accommodation in Alhama, in the Antonio Machado School, whose enrollment of 80 euros for 15 days includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as assistance to all complementary activities and workshops.
In this mode you consider Labor Camp as a meeting point between students from different regions and promoting coexistence work, educational and recreational activities, cultural trips, etc.
METHOD II.
15 seats without stay are offered with free registration, which also allow them to participate in all the complementary activities and training workshops.
This mode is provided for both participants Alhama as the nearby municipalities with ease of movement.
PARTICIPANTS:
They can participate in the Work Camp all people interested in the recovery of the heritage of Alhama de Murcia or in the study and knowledge of as interesting as the emirate and caliphate world (Centuries VIII-X) time.
The admission criteria will be made taking into account:
Modality I: Students or graduates in archeology, history, art history, restoration, architecture, or related sciences, Murcia and other regions.
Mode II: Students or graduates in History, Art History and related sciences, residents in Alhama de Murcia interested generally in the recovery of the heritage of Alhama.
During the fieldwork and laboratory, participants will be organized in teams or groups of 8 people who will pass through all stages of an excavation and the process of restoration and conservation of a site, so that in this way to acquire basic knowledge and archaeological methodology needed to work on an archaeological dig.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL TRAINING AND ACTIVITIES WORK TO DEVELOP.
Participants will develop a program related to archeology and conservation workshop and other activities such as dry rope or sports activities.
theoretical and practical training methods and techniques of archaeological excavation.
Drawing archaeological field of archaeological materials and surveying the site.
Topography.
Talk on bones, charcoal and seeds, etc.

OBJECTIVES:
In relation to the participants:
With this program we believe that out is going to take an important theoretical and practical training based on a thorough knowledge of our Roman and medieval heritage of Alhama;
a series of archaeological methodology practices both excavation field and laboratory work, which will provide students experience in this type of teamwork;
an approach to the various ceramic contexts Museum of Alhama de Murcia, enabling them to distinguish the different ceramic types and their chronologies;
They will participate in consolidation work and restoration of wall structures at the site and participate in daily and interpretation of results.
In relation to the site:
It will be important to end such important works as archaeological documentation of the 5 silos excavated in recent years;
end phases of restoration of the fortress;
perform work of consolidation and conservation of structures recovered and go all documentation complentando drawing and photo.

Schedule: Fieldwork: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 13.30.
Afternoons Thursday, Friday and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of the second week: work, lectures and laboratory practice.
Alhama City Council held insurance for each participant and contribution in each of the modalities for lunch and breakfast and lunch all for Modality I.
Each participant will be delivered to a personal card that gives free entrance to the Summer Film projections and Municipal Pool, during the days being performed Labor Camp.
Alhama City provides all the materials, tools, gloves, etc.
The City Council shall issue a certificate of achievement in the practices excavation and restoration drawing, with the hours worked.
