The Councilor of Social Services, Felipe García, along with two workers in this area, met today with the new Director General of Seniors and Disability in the Region of Murcia, Ana Guijarro.
At the meeting, they discussed two important and necessary points for the municipality: the expansion of places in the current agreement of the Day Center for Older Persons and the signing of a new agreement for the maintenance of the Municipal Psychosocial Care Center for people diagnosed with Mental illness.
Felipe García has requested an extension of places through the agreement with the objective of reducing the waiting time for the entrance to the center and ensuring adequate coverage and care for the elderly in the municipality.
The Director General, who is aware of this request for previous requests, has committed to increase the number of places available in Alhama in the face of upcoming regional budgets and reduce the waiting list by at least 50%.
On the other hand, they have tried to sign a new agreement with IMAS (Instituto Murciano de Acción Social) for the maintenance of the Municipal Psychosocial Care Center, which since its inception in 2008 has not received external funding.
The Director congratulated the City Council for the work that has been developed in the service.
In addition, it has transferred the will of the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunity, Violante Tomás, to agree places for a new day center and also for the provision of the service of promotion of personal autonomy, all in the framework of the System of Attention to the Unit (SAAD).
