The councilor of Urbanism, Antonio Jose Caja, moved last week to Termatalia, the main thermal tourism fair, where Alhama was present with a stand and had the opportunity to expose the economic feasibility study of the spa.
There was present Antonio Freire, Director of consulting and one of the main agents in matter of thermal water at national level.
Caja had the opportunity to speak at two conferences: one focused on thermal tourism and another on investment funds.
The impulse of a thermal space is a commitment that the Government team assumed since the electoral campaign and that, through a schedule of actions, has been explaining its phases.
This project was endorsed by a motion approved by all political groups in 2015 to make some studies regarding the location and viability of that thermal space and that can be seen through the work of consulting study.
Through this schedule of actions, in 2017, at the request of the Popular Party, the study of a totally private investment is established.
Compliance with this agreement has been the main objective of the Alhama de Murcia presence in this year's edition in Termatalia.
After making the two presentations, Alhama through its councilman could meet with two foreign investment funds, but the project did not meet the required conditions that they were looking for.
"What has become clear to us during Alhama's presence at this fair is that thermal tourism is increasing.
We believe that it is very important to position the municipality within those routes of thermal tourism at regional and national level, "said Antonio Jose Caja.
"We continue to seek private investment, we know that it is very difficult for a foreign investment fund to commit to this investment, and if we find it, we would do it unilaterally, never participating in a mixed project with public institutions.
But we must put an end to this search, and start exploring other routes, because we believe that it is important that Alhama put its waters in value, even in a small or modest center, so as to attract investment at a tourist or hotel level " .
The mayor, Diego Conesa, explained that if there is no exclusively private investment, there would be two formulas to carry out: a mixed one, where the higher percentage would exceed the public to private;
or public investment although the administrative management will be a private company that manages it.
"The consultants see as main route a public investment, with an administrative connection of the service, with the supports that may be necessary at the beginning in the matter of the use of the water. The Government team must raise the investments, mixed or public, to the rest of political groups and if they do not agree they will go to popular consultation. "
"This team is not going to go crazy to put a stone or finish the spa in May 2019, we take our approach, our consensus timeline with the rest of political groups, taking step by step, doing things with numbers and with head, and giving all the explanations to all the neighbors of Alhama ", explained the mayor.
The location of the equipment is approved in the General Plan in the zone of the old traffic playground, by all the political groups, where a modification has been made in the mentioned PGMO.
Another motion was approved in April in which the City Council promised to look for private investors and start the process of urban modification so that in the future a thermal center could be located as a result of the study, among other objectives.
"Any modification or improvement that can be made in the Park of La Cubana, will not affect any building such as the auditorium or senior center.
If you decide to start with the remodeling of the Parque de la Cubana, it would open a debate with all the agents involved in that area, "commented Antonio Jose Caja.
