The Circle of Water of the Region of Murcia has called a demonstration this morning to ask for a definitive solution to the problems of drought suffered by the Spanish southeast.
To the same have joined half a hundred farmers and irrigators of Alhama, accompanied by the mayor Diego Conesa and the councilor of Agriculture and Livestock, Antonio José Caja.
The main demand of this group, in front of the serious situation of Murcia irrigation, is to demand solutions to the following of the Region of Murcia.
The march has begun at 10.00 in the Plaza Fontes, in Murcia, with a concentration in front of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura (CHS).
The purpose of the demonstration is to transfer to the president of this entity, Miguel Ángel Ródenas, the start-up of "batteries in existing wells in the Segura basin to alleviate the agonizing situation of lack of water", they also demand irrigation with external resources. this hydrographic basin to avoid an irreversible environmental damage, in addition to asking the Government of the nation to apply new tariffs for the Tajo-Segura transfer.
The demonstration is headed by a banner with the slogan 'Defend tod @ s the garden of Europe', which will end in the Delegation of the Government of Murcia.
The farmers plan to distribute fruits and vegetables and read in public the claims contained in the 'Levantine Manifesto for Water'.
