Last Sunday, March 4, the Neighborhood Association of La Costera, with the help of several residents of the district and the subsidy of the City Council, carried out several environmental volunteer work consisting of improving the old cistern of El Charco, in the municipal land of environmental interest "La Umbría de Carrascoy".
These works consisted of emptying all the sediments that had filled the receiver of the cistern, arranging its wall by reinforcing its walls, repairing the trough and preparing a pond to supply water to the fauna of the area.
In addition, the neighbors placed an interpretive poster of the place and two directional signs to indicate where the road that leads through the area leads.
"El Charco" is a spot in the Sierra de Carrascoy located at 750 meters above sea level that has traditionally been a refuge and work place for shepherds and farmers.
Its old corrals and the small annexed house, the old cistern and its trough, now arranged, the remains of its old terraces or monumental oaks, betray the continuous human presence and the effort to conserve its environmental values ​​to facilitate the lives of its inhabitants .
Today is a key meeting point for walkers, cyclists, photographers or scholars who travel the area, of a special sentimental value for the inhabitants of the hamlet of La Costera.
This place is part of the almost 300 hectares of land that has the municipal farm for the conservation of biodiversity within the Regional Park of El Valle and Carrascoy.
