The secondary education institute Miguel Hernández has organized its II Week of Projects, an initiative that, according to its own letter of presentation "supposes for its students an opportunity for innovation, creativity and participation".
It is about promoting multidisciplinary learning styles and connected with real life through projects of diverse topics such as:
Sierra Espuña Sostenible: so close, so far away.
It seems magic, but it is science.
Photography workshop.
Callejeros en acción: in search of the news.
Or the one that has had the collaboration of the City Council of Alhama, through the Department of Social Services and its Volunteer Program called 'Do you dare ?, Volunteer: Love in Action', in which 27 students have met during the first day of projects, from the hand of the head of the municipal program, general information, a first reflection on the concept of volunteering and awareness of the need and meaning of being volunteers.
Councilman Felipe García addressed some words to the participants on the opening day highlighting the value of volunteering "to help people and help build a better world."
The group of Civil Protection of Alhama de Murcia was also present through two of its members, who made known the actions that are carried out in a solidary and organized manner, in order to prevent risk situations, protect people and property when they occur and encourage their participation in volunteering.
In addition, in this first explanatory session, they also approached the associative reality in the municipality, visiting different entities and municipal resources to learn about some of the social actions carried out in the town, its philosophy and operation.
Thus, the second day of activities, students visited the Therapeutic Community of Las Flotas, where they received their professional team, with which they made a guided tour of the center and its facilities.
Their director explained the work done by specialists in the treatment of addictions, in the processes of detoxification and rehabilitation, as well as favoring the interaction and group dynamics in these processes.
The students were able to hear the direct testimony of several users who told them about their experience.
They also provided information about the Association of Friends of Las Flotas, formed by expats and dedicated to offering their support and advice to those people and relatives who have undergone a rehabilitation process, as well as the role of volunteering in the entity.
From there they went to see the Cavalli Foundation, an organization that develops therapeutic, educational and leisure programs for people with special needs, through contact with horses in the wild, offering effective alternatives with vulnerable groups through individual or group therapies with animals in its environment.
The students made a guided tour of their facilities and were able to interact with the animals and the staff of the center, who explained the tasks that volunteers can develop in the association.
This Thursday they visited the Day Center for the Elderly, where attention is given to people with different degrees of dependency as well as to autonomous people and support is given to families who care for them.
During the guided tour the students discovered the services offered to the elderly, occupational therapy, nursing, cognitive stimulation, in addition to interacting with the residents in the center in the development of these activities, including receiving some advice for daily life by of them, in addition to singing and reciting poetry.
In general, in this volunteer project the responsible teachers have worked with the students all the concepts related to solidarity through motivational videos.
They have been able to draw up posters with solidarity phrases and what they mean by volunteering;
In the last day of this week of projects, the students will make a final assembly with everything they have learned, including a shared outreach of messages in which all young people can leave their wishes.
