The judging panel of the XVI Short Story Literary Contest Alfonso Martínez-Mena has failed the prizes today, after assessing the 18 finalist works among the 1,386 that have been presented in this edition.
The group that has evaluated the works has been formed by José Belmonte, professor of Language and Literature at the University of Murcia, Pablo Blesa, Vice-Rector of International Relations and Communication of the UCAM, Marisa López, writer, and Antonio Arco Castro, cultural journalist.
The Councilor for Culture and Heritage, Alicia Martínez, has served as secretary, and Diego Conesa, mayor of Alhama de Murcia, has presided over the jury.
After the deliberation, they agreed to unanimously grant the first prize, consisting of 3,000 euros, to the work entitled Diary of a harvest, presented under the pseudonym George Best.
Open escrow n ° 101, its author has turned out to be Javier Tuero Rodríguez, a native of Valladolid.
Also by majority, they have awarded the second prize, consisting of 1,500 euros, to the work entitled Other forms of drinking, presented with the pseudonym Borjomi.
Open escrow n ° 399, its author has been Jorge Saiz Mingo, a native of Burgos.
The jury has recorded the high number of works presented a year more to the contest from all parts of Spain, Europe, America and other continents, as well as its literary quality.
Of the 1,386 stories received in the 2017-2018 call, a first selection was made in which a total of 18 were selected, of which the final jury selected five, among which the two winners have been.
The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 20.30 in the plenary hall of the City of Alhama de Murcia.
