The projects funded by the regional government with more than 400,000 euros will be completed before the festivities next month October
The Director General of Planning and Housing, Antonio Navarro, accompanied by the mayor of Alhama de Murcia, José Swords, today visited the comprehensive renovation of the surroundings of the Church of San Lazaro, funded by the Ministry of Public Works and Planning.
The action includes the pedestrian street of La Feria, "one of the most emblematic areas of the municipality, because through it you reach the thermal baths of Roman origin, also known during the Arab domination and BIC declared that, together with Castle and the remains of the towers, are the main monuments of the town of Alhama, "he said Antonio Navarro.
The performance appreciated by the town's historic axis that connects the plaza of the Church and the Arab Baths in the Garden of the Ducks and the square of Supplies of Alhama.
"These works represent the second phase of a larger project which also included the renovation of the Plaza de la Iglesia de San Lazaro," the responsible autonomy.
In this sense, Antonio Navarro added that "works, which will be completed before the festivities celebrating the city next October, will give the town a new modern public space and adapted to the needs of the residents, helping to foster the development of civic life. "
He said that "the best interest of this action lies in the elimination of vehicle traffic by road and will encourage pedestrian traffic and the coexistence of the neighbors and, ultimately, have a major impact on improving the quality of life the alhameños, "the director general.
The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Planning and Housing, has funded 75 percent of the total performance with 412,858 euros, while the Consistory alhameño has provided the remaining 25 percent, 142,680 euros.
This assistance is part of the grant program for Public Spaces conditioning, through which the regional government contributes in creating open spaces that facilitate and enhance the life of society in different municipalities.
