On Friday, September 17, 2010, closed the fourth edition of the course "Balneotherapy. The medical use of thermal waters through history" that took place from 13 to 17 September at the University of Mar Alhama and which involved 65 students, university students and graduates with a university recognition of four elective credits, highlighting the high participation of students of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, tourism, history, etc. ..
Like every year, the course aims to deepen the knowledge of the mineral waters along the history and focus the issue in the Region of Murcia, one of the most advanced in spa therapy, given its long tradition and because the existence of significant exploitation of mineral water as Archena, Fortuna and Alhama, in this case without Spa but with a museum that displays its splendid past.
The course has been an approach to current medical treatments - spa, with an eye toward the past, which has been reflected in a series of lectures on the baths in ancient times the Roman world, Islamic and modern spa hotels , the new perspective of the future has been revealed in the conferences held in Fortuna Spas Archena, which also were taken of active and passive baths, mud, massage, moist stove, vaporarium, bathing in hot springs and swimming pool.
During the course, visits were made to the ancient baths of Fortuna, Archena archaeological findings and the Archaeological Museum of Los Baños de Alhama de Murcia.
The closure was carried out by the Director of the Universidad del Mar, Manuela Lopez Tenes, Councillor for the Environment, José Miguel Muñoz Andreo representing the Mayor and one of the course directors, Dr. Louis Shepherd, with a high balance positive participating students.
