The mayor of Alhama, José Espadas, accompanied by the Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Manuel Campos, today inaugurated the new headquarters of Local Police and Civil Protection of the municipality, which will serve 21,000 inhabitants and strengthen security.
The construction of the infrastructure has been a total investment of 1,660,787 euros, of which 600,000 have been contributed by the Autonomous Community.
The headquarters was designed for a population of more than 50,000 inhabitants although now has 21,000, as noted by the mayor of the municipality, José Espadas, who added that from today the local police service will be located in the new building.
"We have been very demanding, looking a little less than the cost that the quality of citizen service. Now we have to provide good service and the citizens deserve," added the councilman.
Fields toured the new facility, which "will allow both municipal officials as the Civil Defence volunteers to better serve the citizens of the town" because they have more space for the development of policing and better ways technical and materials.
So far, the facilities of the Local Police and Civil Protection were located in a public parking basement of the Plaza de la Constitution.
The new building, located between the streets and Lorenzo Rubio Andreo Station has a floor space of 1,720 square feet on three floors and a basement, built on a plot of 2,029 meters square.
On the ground floor there is a space for the local police with a reception room, waiting another five offices and toilets, and another space for Civil Protection, with a general ward with direct communication to the basement and two offices.
The first floor has enabled a large meeting room of 70 square meters, a file, a waiting room and three offices.
The second floor has a lounge located with male and female changing rooms and a gunsmith, and the basement is a warehouse, parking and police cells.
Currently, 38 local police officers in Alhama de Murcia and 40 Civil Defence volunteers ensure safety in the municipality, which also features ten of the 628 players listed in the Regional Public Safety Plan, approved in 2006 with the unanimous support of the 45 municipalities in the region.
The inauguration was also attended by several local members of the Corporation including the Police mayor, Fulgencio de la Cruz.
Also present were heads of other bodies such as the Civil Guard and Fire.
