On 2 February, celebrate the Day of La Candelaria in which alhameños pilgrimage to celebrate the hamlet of El Collao where residents enjoy a holiday and social activities.
Councillor for Festivities, José María Muñoz Ceron, accompanied by members of the Brotherhood of La Candelaria by the pastor of St. Lazarus, Joseph Prior, gave an account of the events organized and invited everyone to participate.
The mayor noted that the program will start on Wednesday February 1 at 19.30 pm with the celebration of Mass in the church of La Concepción sung by the group "The Golden Age to an end, as is traditional, will move the image of the Virgin of Candelaria to the church of San Lázaro, where it will go on pilgrimage to the next day.
Specifically, on Thursday 2, Candlemas Day, at 9.45 am Procession will be held Kids in the streets adjacent to the parish of San Lázaro, the church where the procession leaves and ends to make way for the mass (the 10.00) in honor of the Virgin of La Candelaria that this year will be sung by "Alhama Choir."
About 11 hours is scheduled to begin the procession with the image of the Virgin from the church to the Collao accompanied by various street musicians in the town.
In the aforementioned place, at 14.00 in the festival participants can enjoy a giant paella.
Josefa Muñoz Romero (The Gonzalo), a spokesman for the Brotherhood took the opportunity to encourage everyone to participate and accompany the "Virgin of La Candelaria in their pilgrimage in a beautiful ceremony in which everyone lives in joy."
For its part, the pastor of San Lazaro congratulated the Brotherhood for the vitality that shows each year organizing the events of Day of La Candelaria and encouraged residents to participate in a ceremony "where to find and enjoy taking the opportunity to raise eyes to heaven and pray for the little ones. "
