The Municipality of Alhama de Murcia, through the Department of Health, has developed workshops between students in first through fourth of the ESO, framed in the Local Plan of Drug Dependence.
Ana Fernandez, Councillor of Health, accompanied by representatives of the Habitat Company Culture, who has been giving workshops, was aware of the action and its impact.
The mayor noted that the initiative has reached a few thousand students from both schools who have received training on eating disorders, sexual and emotional education on drug abuse.
Fernandez noted that this initiative has a preventive character in the population.
It also added that the Council be convened Local Drug Dependence to make decisions and to develop projects and objectives.
The mayor was accompanied by an official of the company mentioned Arroniz Pepa and responsible for the workshops, Lola and Lidia Aroca Barbero.
Arroniz stressed that his company has been working on these workshops for eight years and has always found by those responsible for the schools very well received.
The objectives of the workshops, held between students from 12 to 16, are to give the arguments needed to avoid drugs through social skills that enable them to develop their own criteria and critical thinking.
In these workshops, the experts pointed, very participatory and they are created through visual dynamics, plenty of space for discussion and questions, etc., which fail to establish standardized environments in which students feel the confidence to ask the questions they deem appropriate.
Thus, they talk about drugs and their consequences, contraceptives, nutritional problems or other issues that arise in the various workshops.
They were also provided to students through e-mails which can send their questions at the time in which they arise.
Moreover, after completion of the workshops, teachers who demand it, they are provided the necessary material with which they can continue working of the above matters with students.
