The City Council launches school projects in environmental education: Escolars Orchards and Green Schools (24/09/2012)

The City Council of Alhama de Murcia, through the Department of Education launched the program this academic year 2012-2013 educaENverde Environmental Education.

This proposal consists of two lines of work within the school: Green Schools and school gardens.

The program, which has already started in the month of September and ends in April 2013, has been presented this morning by the mayor of Education, Ana Fernandez, and by Filo Provencio and Juan José Robles, Ecoespuña company, which will develop.

The first line of work, school gardens, will allow children to participate in the process of growing vegetables from planting to harvest.

Learn the care needed by plants for growth and know the diseases that affect them.

In addition, the garden will be a live scenario to address other areas of study of the students, such as energy, the sun, water, land, measures, food, health, vocabulary, tools, agricultural work, and much more.

This course will work in the school garden: N ª S ª del Rosario, Prince of Spain, Gines Diaz - San Cristóbal, Antonio Machado and Ricardo Codorníu.

The school Espuña, as noted by the mayor, has not been eligible for this project due to lack of place to develop it.

The second line of work, Green Schools, will provide schools and students participating in a tool: the environmental audit, that more and more companies and institutions are using to achieve greater efficiency in the management of the resources they consume and the waste they produce.

The environmental audit is a process to determine the starting point of the center, analyzing both conceptual and attitudinal deficiencies, and the facilities and supplies and, from there, develop an improvement plan to correct them.

Topics can work in schools through an environmental audit are: waste, water, energy, noise and the environment.

Each center has chosen a theme to work along this course.

Ricardo Codorníu Espuña and waste and water, Prince of Spain and waste Leyva Valley, N ª S ª del Rosario and Miguel Hernandez noise energy.

These two projects are not submitted within the space of the school, but involve the rest of the school community (parents and grandparents).

They can participate in helping the school garden maintenance and providing expertise in culture.

Green Schools also will leave the center to families to inform them of the proposed challenges and ask for their cooperation.
