On Tuesday 15 a bus full of women, not only Alhama, but also of their districts, out of the way to El Berro to celebrate the First Day of Rural Women organized by the city of Alhama de Murcia through the Department of Women.
Lola Canovas, responsible for the area, received participants in the initiative promoted within the Women's Advisory Council, to promote equality of opportunity for all women, whatever their areas.
The first day was organized in collaboration with the Women's Association of El Berro Birch, who received the visitors to accompany them throughout the day.
And also in El Berro, Mayor of Alhama de Murcia, Alfonso Morales Fernando Ceron, waiting for the bus to receive them and thank them for their participation in this initiative, described as very interesting by nature of claim on the important role of rural women.
The first activity that took place was the visit to the old ditches where the village women washed clothes, popularly known as "lavaores".
Here, as explained by women berreña association, not only women washed clothes, but it was also a meeting place for women.
The place, in disuse for decades, was in very poor condition and at the initiative of the association, in collaboration with the residents and helped by the Alhama City through its Department of Public Works and Services, are restoring it so that no be lost as part of the history of the place.
After the visit, members of the Interpretation Centre Codorniu Espuña Ricardo, went to the village to deliver a crafts workshop in which the women found some of the important plants that populate the mountain and which usually have medicinal use.
Following the workshop, the women enjoyed a convivial meal which was followed by a coffee chat.
In his speech, the mayor of Women, noted that rural women have played a key role throughout history, supporting the family and society.
Meanwhile, Maria Sanchez, president of The Birch, showed that on a day to day women of the villages, the effort to achieve certain issues is greater because it is necessary to go to the town for any management.
Throughout the day women were accompanied by the headman of El Berro, Juani Cava, and by the councilors Maria Jose Ceron, Councillor hamlets and Ana Fernandez, Councillor for Education.
Finished the day, congratulated women sued the organization and holding a second day for already paid female volunteers from other districts.
