Ramón Bascuñana won second prize]
The city of Alhama de Murcia announced that this afternoon, May 16, 2014, met the jury of XIV Literary Short Story Contest, "Alfonso Martínez-Mena" to fail this prestigious literary competition.
Of the 19 stories that have come to the hands of the final jury has been awarded a first prize of 3,000 euros, Ramón Múñoz-Chápuli Oriol of Granada who has performed with the slogan Justin Case and won the prize "Larguetto".
The second prize of 1,500 euros went to Manuel Ramón Moya Bascuñana Orihuela who has presented under the title The Other and has been awarded by "Iron Lithium oxide, tungsten".
Finally, the jury awarded a special mention to the story "One foot in the grave", a story presented under the title Astroboy.
On this issue there have been a total of 1,546 stories from around the world and places as diverse as Qatar or Australia.
The final jury of this edition has been composed by José García Tempered, Professor of Literature in Madrid;
Dionisia García Sánchez, writer;
Plablo Salvador Blesa Aledo, rector of International Relations and Communication UCAM;
José Belmonte Serrano, Professor of Language and Literature at the University of Murcia, who acts as secretary of the jury and Carmen Maria Rodriguez Canovas, Councillor for Culture and Heritage of Alhama and president of the jury.
The jury took first a touching keepsake for Alfonso Martínez-Mena, who gives name to the contest, was a juror for numerous edits and died in 2010. Jury has referred to him as one of the best short story writers twentieth century and have highlighted the importance it has had to consolidate this literary contest.
Have also highlighted the high quality of the finalists stories and neatness and honesty through which competition has become one of the most important awards of Spain stories jurors.
Winning stories
The first prize went to Ramón Múñoz-Chápuli Oriol born in Granada and Malaga resident where he is Professor of Animal Biology at the University.
He has published hundreds of scientific papers in national and international journals and has won several scientific awards.
As to his literary resume, has won the "La Felguera" short story prize three silver Piggy banks and two Second prizes in the "Golden Piggy" competition;
He has twice been a finalist in the UNICAJA / JJ prize.
Relosillas the Press Association of Málaga;
finalist in the "City of Peniscola" competition;
finalist Miguel de Unamuno in Salamanca;
second prize award "Jara Carrillo" Sewer;
finalist Vortex Science Fiction;
I Award finalist story about a scientific paper (University of Murcia) and the second runner literary contest of the Sierra de Madrid José Saramago.
The second winner was Manuel Ramón Moya Bascuñana Orihuela degree in Geography and History from the University of Murcia who was winner of the first edition of the Short Story Contest Alfonso Martínez-Mena.
This writer also has to his credit a dozen awards for poetry and as many short stories and tales.
Ramón Bascuñana has also published over his career twenty books of all kinds of genres.
