The "Alcohol: Awareness with science" Campaign is an educational program on issues related to the consumption of alcohol and other drugs, targeting adolescents, framed in a community intervention program with the collaboration of the Health Centers, Centers of Secondary and Local Drug Addiction Prevention Programs in the Region of Murcia: the ARGOS program.
It revolves around the visit of groups of students in 1st ESO to a traveling poster exhibit at the Center for Health Reference, accompanied by the teacher and one or more health professionals.
Three activities are conducted with students the guided tour of the exhibition at the health center of reference for each IES, along with two sessions at school, respectively before and after the visit, which are developed by such dynamic teaching units.
The General Directorate of Citizen and Drug Dependence and the Directorate General of Planning, Health and Pharmaceutical Research and the Ministry of Health and Social Policy Planning, as directed by the Regional Drug Plan, in collaboration with the Management of Health Areas Murciano Health Service, the Directorate General of Educational Planning and the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment, and Local Plans Drug Addiction Prevention have developed this educational program for the prevention of problems related to the consumption of beverages teenage alcoholic.
Studies on drug use (AGES ESTUDES 2009 and 2010) show, without a doubt, that alcohol is the drug most widely used by the Spaniards and the Region of Murcia.
Relevant intervention in the adolescent population due to the high prevalence and consumption style that is occurring: youth consumption occurs mostly in weekends, public spaces are intentionally looking drunkenness as fun, aggravated by great social tolerance and low risk perception that its use entails.
Data provided by the Drug Observatory of Murcia and the National Observatory on Drugs, in relation to alcohol consumption in the general population and adolescents, amply justify the need for intervention from all available resources and practice based on scientific evidence, recommended the combination of health, education and community resources available.
Data from school surveys on drug use made in the period 1994-2010 in the Region of Murcia (ESTUDES) indicate that alcohol is the substance that has a higher prevalence among schoolchildren aged 14-18 years: In the last survey in 2010, 67.2% of adolescents have ever ever tasted alcohol, 59.6% have consumed in the past 12 months and 53.9% have used it in the last month (almost all have tried and more than half still drinking).
The average age of first use is 13.81 years and the average age of onset in the weekly consumption 15.04 years (which justifies intervention at the beginning of the ESO, before the age of risk for first use) .
The ARGOS program in Alhama de Murcia has the participation of groups of 5 students in 1st ESO IES Miguel Hernandez involving a total of 135 students, who have performed at its center the first teaching unit and Visitors Center Health Alhama on days 13, 14 and May 16, 2014 to view guided by Dr. Telmo Rodríguez Provencio and accompanied by Mamen Educator Santos Suarez IES Miguel Hernandez.
Visits completed students will perform at its center the last teaching unit to assess what they have learned and can enter a contest to demonstrate their knowledge through the portal www.e-drogas.es.
The Department of Health and Education of the City of Alhama has coordinated visits to the Health Institute, establishing contact between the different professionals and institutions.
The program is part of the Local Drug Addiction Prevention Plan, which will soon be adopted as a coordinated action within the community and education.
