Alhama celebrates the 48th Grape Exhibition Competition Bureau and Agricultural products this year.
This is one of the oldest exhibition of its kind to remain at the regional level and that is nothing but a sign of commitment that this municipality has to promote its varied agricultural products.
Born 48 years ago as a promotional support for table grapes, then in major boom for alhameños fields.
But over the years evolved into all kinds of agricultural products produced by the wide region of Guadalentín, although it's own town of Alhama which offers the greatest stretch.
And it must not be forgotten that 10% of agricultural production in the Region of Murcia has its origin in this county and in particular, 20% of the grapes coming out of this region is also harvested here.
In previous years there have been about three hundred different products from nearly a hundred farmers in the region.
Until the end of the deadline for this year totals unknown, but estimates that may be submitted between 30 and 40 samples of grape, citrus about 50, about 40 flowers and 70 to 90 other horticultural products.
The contest consists of 7 categories of awards in the categories of grapes, citrus and flowers.
For the grapes are varieties awards "Dominga", "Red Globe" and "Crimson", while for citrus are called "Orange", "Lemon" and "Other Citrus".
For flowers there is only the "Flowers" award.
In addition, the jury may award up to 8 special mentions to be awarded to those products or producers who stand out.
Producers will present their products from 3rd to 5th October and the exhibition will open on Tuesday 6 October at 20.00 at the House of Culture of Alhama.
The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 10 at 12.00 in the Hall.
