The House of the Corporation met last night dramatically with a single item on the agenda: approval of the strategy "Alhama to live" within the plan for sustainable urban development "Alhama Sum" and aid applications of EU funds .
The Socialist Party, the Popular Party and United Left gave their support to the project, reaching a majority of 19 of the 21 councilors.
Only the two representatives of citizens voted against.
Wednesday is the deadline for the submission of applications, after four months of meetings, reports and studies.
During that time, a team formed by consultants Albant & Inedit, municipal technicians and the municipal government have held thirty meetings with political parties, associations, companies, workers, students and residents in general to get an overview of the municipality and incorporate their input.
It has also been widely received in local and regional media as well as social networks and its own website: www.alhamasuma.es to promote citizen participation, along with surveys and personal interviews.
The City Council officially presented to the media the "Alhama Sum" last October, a global plan promoted by the local Executive to establish the town's development in the coming years initiative.
Thus the name was given to a whole line of work aimed at identifying current challenges facing Alhama, as well as the opportunities and potential for future development.
Under "Alhama Sum" it has given way to an intense work of citizen participation that has been developing since the new Corporation was constituted.
The November 17, 2015 the Official Gazette published the call for the selection of strategies for Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development (DUSI), which will be co-financed by the ERDF operational program for sustainable growth from 2014 to 2020 with funds from the European Union.
This call aims to fund projects that address five key objectives: economic, environmental, climate, demographic and social.
For this first call, Murcia will have a total of 27.3 million euros and the municipalities of between 20,000 and 50,000 people who request it can access up to 5 million.
The call states that all operations should be included executed before December 31, 2022, always in accordance with the schedule is designed.
To this end the City of Alhama de Murcia has developed its own strategy that has been called "Alhama to live", which includes a set of guidelines aimed at achieving the objectives.
This strategy represents a total of 6,250,000 euros, of which 5,000,000 are to apply to this call, the maximum allowed.
The rest is expected to finance with its own resources.
"Alhama Sum" continues, and the process of citizen participation, through meetings with the various groups in order to further enrich the strategy for the future of the municipality.
