A municipal delegation led by the Mayor, the Councillor for Tourism and Environment Councillor, yesterday visited the International Tourism Fair in Madrid to mark the Day of the Region of Murcia.
The town of Alhama has joined the regional offer in Fitur, headed this year by Caravaca de la Cruz on the occasion of the Holy Year 2017. The alhameño mayor, Diego Conesa, took advantage of the visit to greet his counterpart, José Moreno, showing the connection and support of our community tourism project to Caravaca, where one of the routes of the Vera Cruz runs through the Sierra Espuña Regional Park.
In a meeting with the Minister of Tourism of Murcia, Mayor emplazaba him to a future meeting to expose the ideas of thermal tourism in Alhama and possible sources of funding.
Enhancement of our hot springs
During the visit, the Mayor met with officials from the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia to expose the project to build a thermal spa in Alhama.
Also shared data and schedule performance with the manager of the Consortium of Health Tourism in the Region of Murcia and Miguel Lloret, one of its historically responsible, knowledgeable and benchmark in thermal tourism.
This meeting point was used to collect data on new private investors in this type of complex, fulfilling the schedule on the thermal water that is holding the municipal government.
Remember that during 2015 and 2016 is being made Alhama promotion to potential investors for the construction of a resort hotel.
If this option does not materialize, the Government will propose, in line with the current process of citizen participation Alhama Suma, the construction of a thermal space public initiative whose management can be public, private or mixed.
Espuña and Saladares Guadalentín
Speaking to the media, Diego Conesa highlighted the natural wealth of Alhama, noting that "our town occupies only 3% of the total area of the region, but has 20% of all protected areas."
Among them is the Sierra Espuña Regional Park, but also Saladares Guadalentín, one of the least known and most unique of the entire region, which has a surprising diversity of flora and fauna spaces.
Regional connection through greenways
One of the stops was at the tourist spot on greenways.
There Councilman of Environment and the Councillor for Tourism could exchange information on the Greenway linking Fuente Alamo Totana, Cartagena and Mazarrón, with a total length of 66.8 kilometers and whose works recovery will begin this year.
The route is divided between the main axis between Totana and Cartagena, 53 km long, and the branch of La Pinilla to Mazarrón, 13.8 km.
The main axis runs through the town of Alhama, just where the building was to be allocated to station is located.
This great itinerary will allow to connect the coast of Murcia Guadalentín Valley, Sierra Espuña and the Northwest region through other long-distance paths, especially the path of the water, the GR-252 Camino de la Vera Cruz Lower Guadalentín and the familiar Northwest Greenway.
The new road, suitable for cyclists and walkers, sits on the old railway project from the twenties of the last century sought to link the naval bases of San Fernando, Cadiz, with Cartagena.
This stretch is now pending to become Greenway never became operational, but his works were so advanced that only lacked installing sleepers and rails.
As a result today is presented as a great opportunity for the provision of this equipment Murcia ecotourism.
