Alhama and has been one of the municipalities that host it is, perhaps, the biggest sporting event in the Region of Murcia.

The local mayor, Juan Romero and director of the Tour of Murcia, Francisco Guzman, presented at a press conference the "Queen Stage" of the Tour of Murcia this year is new beginning, passes and ends Alhama de Murcia.
The XXIX edition of the Tour of Murcia will be held from 4 to 8 March 2009 and its fourth leg on 7 March, will go through Alhama de Murcia.
Guzman, other than to thank the City Council their cooperation, progress has been made involving some stars of the first row of national and international cycling peloton as are Kim Kirchen, Denis Menchov and Stefano Garzelli.
